A farmer and his wife had a son who liked to study. They loved very much, so they saved money for him and sent him to a college in the city. In seven years, he finished his studies and came home. His old mother and father were proud of the boy who could read books.
                    One morning the mother went outdoors to milk the cows. There was a new young cow that was very wild. When the old woman tried to milk her, she kicked.
                    When the cow kept on kicking, the woman called to her husband, “Come out and help me with the cow.” The old man went out and tried to hold the cow, but the cow kept on jumping and kicked him.
                     Then he said, “We don’t have to worry about her. We have a son who went to college. He has studied many things and has learned a lot. He knows how to take care of a wild cow. I’ll call him”
                     The old man called his son and told him about the cow. The boy came out of the house and looked at her for a time. Then he said, “Don’t worry about this cow. Before she can kick, she has to bend her back. We have to make her back straight.”
                     The father said, “I don’t understand, Son, but, of course, you’ve been to college. You know more than your mother and father. Straighten the cow’s back. We’ll be very happy.
                     The son put on his gold eyeglasses. He studied the cow from head to foot. Then he said, “We need a weight for back. That will straighten it.”
                     “What do you want for a weight, Son?” asked the father.
                     “Oh, any weight, Pa – any weight that’s very heavy.”
                     “All right, but where will we get a weight, Son?”
                     “You get on her back, Pa. You ‘re heavy.”
                     “Son, you were at school a long time. You’ve forgotten that it’s hard to sit on a cow, and I’m getting old, you know.”
                     “But, Pa, I’ll tie your feet together under her. Then you won’t fall off. Please get on now.”
                     “All right, Son. You want me to get on the cow, and I’ll get on her. You know more than I do – I think.”
                     They tied the cow to a tree, and the old man climbed onto her back. It was hard for him to climb. The boy tied his father’s feet together under the cow. But, again, when the old woman tried to milk her, the animal began to kick. She kicked and jumped, and the old man began asking to get down. He kept calling to his son, “Cut the rope, boy! Cut he rope! I want to get down.”
                     The boy didn’t cut the rope around his father’s feet. He cut the rope that tied the cow to the tree.
                     Then she began to run. She ran across the field with the man on her back. She ran through the woods. The old man couldn’t do a thing to stop her.
                     Finally, the cow ran down a little dirt road. There was a neighbor woman walking along the road. She was surprised to see the farmer on the cow’s back. She asked, “Where are you going, Brother? Why are you riding on that cow?”
                     “Only the Lord, my son, and this cow know,” he said.

                    เกษตรกร กับ ภริยา มีลูกชายคนหนึ่งซึ่งเป็น เด็กใฝ่เรียน พวกเขารักลูกชายมาก เก็บหอมรอมริบไว้ให้ลูกชาย และ ส่งไปเรียนที่ วิทยาลัย ในเมือง ผ่านไป 7 ปี ลูกชายสำเร็จการศึกษากลับมาบ้าน สร้าง ความภาคภูมิใจ ในตัว ลูกชายผู้สามารถอ่านหนังสือได้ แก่ บิดา และ มารดา ผู้สูงอายุ เป็นอย่างยิ่ง
                    เช้าวันหนึ่ง ผู้เป็นแม่จะรีดนมวัว มีแม่วัวสาวตัวหนึ่ง ยังไม่เชื่อง มันไม่ยอมให้หญิงผู้เป็นแม่รีดน้ำนมจากเต้าของมัน มันปฏิเสธด้วยการเตะ
                    เมื่อแม่วัวเตะอย่างต่อเนื่อง หญิงแก่จึงเรียกสามีให้มาช่วย “ออกมาช่วยจัดการแม่วัวให้หน่อยซิ” ชายแก่ออกมาช่วยและ พยายามจะจับแม่วัวไว้ แต่แม่วัวไม่หยุดที่จะกระโดดและเตะ
                    ชายผู้เป็นพ่อพูดว่า “เราไม่ต้องกังวลกับแม่วัว เรามีลูกชาย ผู้เรียนจบจากวิทยาลัย ลูกของเราศึกษามามากมาย และ เรียนมาหลายอย่าง เขารู้ว่าจะจัดการกับแม่วัวอย่างไร ฉันจะไปเรียกลูกมาช่วย”
                    ชายชราเรียกหาลูกชาย และ บอกลูกเกี่ยวกับแม่วัว ลูกชายออกมาดูแม่วัวอยู่ชั่วครู่หนึ่ง แล้วพูดว่า, “อย่ากังวลกับแม่วัวตัวนี้ ก่อนที่มันจะเตะ มันต้องงอหลังของมัน เราต้อง บังคับหลังของมันให้ตรง”
                    พ่อพูดว่า “พ่อไม่เข้าใจ, ลูก! แต่, แน่นอน ลูกจบจากวิทยาลัย ลูกมีความรู้มากกว่า แม่และพ่อ ของลูก ทำหลังวัวให้ตรงซะ เราจะมีความสุข”
                    ลูกชายหยิบแว่นตาขอบทองขึ้นมาสวม เขาศึกษาแม่วัว ตั้งแต่หัว ถึง ตีน แล้วพูดว่า “เราต้องหาน้ำหนักมา ถ่วงหลัง แม่วัว แล้วจะ ทำให้หลังของมันตรง”
                    “แล้วลูกต้องการอะไรมาทำเป็นน้ำหนักถ่วงหลังมันล่ะ?” ผู้เป็นพ่อถาม
                    อะไรก็ได้, พ่อ ! น้ำหนักอะไรก็ได้ที่หนักมาก ๆ”
                    “ก็ได้, แต่เราจะไปหาที่ไหนล่ะ, ลูก?”
                    “พ่อขึ้นขี่หลังมันซิครับ, ตัวพ่อหนักมากอยู่แล้ว”
                    “ลูกเอ๋ย ! ลูกไปเรียนหนังสือเป็นเวลานาน ลูกลืมไปแล้วมั้งว่า มันเป็นเรื่องยากที่จะนั่งบนหลังวัว และ พ่อก็แก่มากแล้ว ลูกก็รู้”
                    “แต่ พ่อ ! ผมจะ ผูกเท้าของพ่อไว้ด้วยกัน ใต้ท้องแม่วัว พ่อก็จะไม่ตกจากหลังของมัน ขึ้นไปขี่หลังมันเถอะครับ”
                    “ก็ได้! ลูก, ลูกอยากให้พ่อขี่หลังแม่วัว พ่อก็จะขึ้นไปขี่ พ่อคิดว่า ลูก มีความรู้มากกว่า พ่อ นะ”
                    พวกเขาผูกแม่วัวไว้กับต้นไม้ ชายชราปีนขึ้นไปบนหลังของมันด้วยความยากลำบาก ลูกชายผูกขาของผู้เป็นพ่อไว้ด้วยกันใต้ท้องแม่วัว แต่ เมื่อผู้เป็นแม่พยายามที่จะรีดนมจากแม่วัว เจ้าสัตว์น้อยก็เริ่มเตะ ทั้งเตะ ทั้งกระโดด และชายชราเริ่มร้องขอที่จะลงจากหลังวัว เขาเรียกลูกชายแล้วบอกว่า
                    “ตัดเชือก, ลูก ! ตัดเชือก! พ่อจะลง!”
                    ลูกชายมิได้ ตัดเชือกที่ผูกเท้า ทั้งสองข้างของพ่อ แต่ ตัดเชือกที่ผูกวัวไว้กับต้นไม้
                    แล้วแม่วัวก็เริ่มวิ่ง วิ่งผ่านทุ่งหญ้าโดยมีชายชราอยู่บนหลัง แล้วยังวิ่งต่อเข้าไปในป่า ชายแก่ไม่สามารถทำอะไรได้ซักอย่างที่จะให้วัวหยุดวิ่ง
                    ในที่สุด แม่วัววิ่งลงไปตามถนนสกปรกสายเล็ก ๆ สายหนึ่ง มีเพื่อนบ้านหญิงคนหนึ่งกำลังเดินผ่านมา เธอแปลกใจมากที่เห็นชายชราบนหลังวัว จึงถามว่า
                    “พี่ชาย ! กำลังจะไปไหน? ทำไมต้องขี่วัวด้วยน่ะ?”
                    ชายชราตอบว่า
                     “ก็มีแต่ พระเจ้า, ลูกชายของฉัน, และ แม่วัว เท่านั้นที่รู้!”
